Praying for the Economy

I’ve been praying for the economy a lot the last few days, but it’s been a little strange. Usually I can jump right into things and pray that the wrong would be made right, that people would come to know the Lord, etc.–I know exactly what I’m praying about and can go at it.

This time was different. I found myself praying that the bail out plan would go through so the economy would recover, but then the thought hit me: Is that what I should be asking God for? I mean, we don’t even know for sure the bail out plan is going to work, so why pray it in? The Lord might have a better plan down the line for the country that we just haven’t come to yet. Or maybe this is all part of a greater plan He has and my prayers are, well, going against that.

It took me back, so I started to pray again simply for the Lord’s guidence and that He would continue to work in the lives and hearts of people accross the country–that in spite of the financial crunch, His kingdom would continue to grow.

In everything, it’s important to remember that we might feel good about a certain plan or way of doing things, but that doesn’t mean we know what will and should happen. “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)

Well it looks like the bail out bill is passed. Strap yourself in. It’s going to be a wild ride.

Oh my goodness. I really feel ya. The Lord has a plan and I’ve been wondering if his plan could be that our economy falls so people turn to him for security. But, I don’t know either. May HIS will be done.

  • Nathaniel Dame says:

Amen–His will. I’m glad I’ve learned to trust Him more through all of this… pray the same happens for many others.
